When you love Nudibranchs so much, you smell them....
Acanthodoris lutea, commonly referred to as the Sandalwood Dorid, is a species of Nudibranch found in the eastern Pacific Ocean in the intertidal and subtidal zones on rocky shores. It is a common species and is very noticeable because of its bright coloration, which tells predators to back off. They feed on bryozoans and turn the chemicals taken from the bryozoan food into a noxious metabolite which is toxic to possible predators.
So why make a candle inspired by these toxic Nudibranchs? Well, they have a secret. They smell like SANDALWOOD! They produce an odorous secretion to repel other organisms which has been commonly described as smelling like sandalwood. Pretty dang cool Nudis if you ask me!
Note: No Nudibranchs were harmed in the making of these candles!
