Rare rainbow sea slug found in Falmouth rock pool

Vicky Barlow was looking around tide pools when she found a rare sea slug while searching around the coast of south Cornwall - The Rainbow Sea Slug (Babakina anadoni). They are usually found in warmer waters. According to experts there have been only three previous sightings of the creature in the UK and this was the first in a rockpool. Spotting the sea slug was part of a pattern of "massive changes" in sealife seen around the South West over the last five years, Dr Holt told BBC News.

Close Encounters Of The Slug Kind

Another feature on the winning shot from Aleksei Permiakov, who scooped first place in the nudibranch category for Ocean Art 2022.
“During the pandemic me and my wife got stuck in Bali and that was a great opportunity for macro photography,” explained Permiakov to Underwater Photography Guide, which hosts the competition. “We explored Tulamben and made a series of dives at the Drop Off dive site where we spotted quite a lot of different subjects.”
